Happy Sunday Parents:

What a lovely winter weekend.  Excellent job to the girls 7th and 8th grade swim team in their final conference meet of the season!  It is exciting to watch their progress.

We have a final week before Christmas break and we will be really focusing on the "reason for the season".

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor,

     Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father,
     Prince of Peace.

Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.

The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers concerning my father-in-law.  He has been moved to Freedom Village to recover from his infection and pneumonia.  He is doing very well.  Hopefully he can get back to his apartment within a few weeks.

I have updated my classroom newsletter.

Have a wonderful night!!

Sunday, December 1, 2013

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a restful long weekend.

Sorry that I did not update my blog/newsletter sooner but we unfortunately have been in and out of the hospital since Wednesday night with my father-in-law.  He developed a bad staph infection in his leg and has many other health issues which have complicated things a bit.

We are his caregivers so it has been important for us to be there as much as possible.  Fortunately, it happened over our time off of work so I did not have to miss any classroom time.  I always recognize things like this as part of God's perfect plan.  Both my husband and I were able to be there without having to worry about work.  That was a HUGE BLESSING!!

With that said, I did not update my classroom newsletter.  I will just tell you that with the shortened week and swimming, most of what we did was to focus on what we are thankful for.  We also did spend some significant time talking about the first Thanksgiving and the life of Squanto who was a Christian Native American.

I am so thankful for EVERYTHING: ...the good things...the frustrating things...the sad things...EVERYTHING---- as I know that each thing has been allowed for me to experience to help create the person that God wants me to be.

I am looking forward to seeing my little cherubs in the morning!!

Good Morning Parents:

What a beautiful winter wonderland outside.  I personally LOVE the snow(which is easy for me to say as I am not the one who has to clear the driveway everyday).

The snow does remind me again of how the Lord created every little detail about what we experience with nature.  We truly serve an AWESOME GOD!!!

With the snow I thought I would send out an extra reminder that with snow on the ground your child should come to school with boots, snow pants, gloves, hats... Please also make sure that your child has indoor shoes they can change into after coming in from recess as we do not want to get our carpet all wet in the classroom.

CONGRATULATIONS to CALVIN'S GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM

NCAA CHAMPS!!!!

We were at the game Friday and Saturday and it was so exciting to watch.  I no longer have a voice but it was so worth every minute of cheering.

Here are a few highlight from the game.

Hello 3rd Grade Families:

I hope that you have enjoyed the very beginning of your weekend so far.  We have had an interesting week as we have had several guest teachers throughout the week due to a meeting and my own sick daughter.  It can be very hard for children to have to have a change in their routine but our class handled it very well.

Thank you to Jennifer Hawkins and Karen Machiela for helping out as room lunch volunteers on Monday.

Next week we start our swimming lessons.  I have the detailed times in our newsletter.  If you have any questions about it just let me know.

Have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Good Evening!

I hope that this Sunday night finds you well!  I hope that you had a wonderful time celebrating God's Creation this weekend.  The Wyma's sure did even though it was weekend of cleaning...painting...fixing.... As I felt like complaining about it all, I stepped back and started to think...WOW, I am blessed with a house to clean, good health in which I can do it, and a loving fun family to do it with.  God really changed my stinking thinking quickly as he often does.

I was reminded repeatedly of this verse:

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

I have updated the newsletter and have included our swimming lesson schedule.  You are welcome to watch any of the days.

I also wanted to remind you that this week on Wednesday, we have the Children's Advocacy Center coming in to talk to the children about making sure that they know how to keep their body safe from others.  The presentation is very well done and is very appropriate.  It is a very good reminder for them to hear.  If you have any questions about it let me know.

I just wanted to thank you again for sharing your "little blessings" with me each day.  I love the time that I get to spend with them.  I am learning so much about who they are as individuals.  It is so fun!!

Good Evening Parents!

I hope you have all found this weekend to be wonderful.  My family and I went to Chicago for a "birthday" weekend for my daughter Madelyn and her friend Kaylee.  We left right from school on Friday and just returned home tonight.  My apologies for not posting sooner.

The classroom newsletter has been updated so you can see what we learned about last week.

I am so looking forward to being with your children tomorrow.

I have updated the classroom newsletter for last week as well as this week.

Have a wonderful time enjoying this extra long weekend as a family.  I have told the children that they do not have ANY homework, not even reading minutes.  I want them to relax and have some total down time.

Happy Saturday 3rd Grade Families!

We had such a wonderful week this week.  Your children are such wonderful treasures that I enjoy being with every day.  I am really starting to get to know each one of them individually and I love to see how they are all created with their own unique gifts.

The highlight of our week this week was "Grandparents Day".  Being new at Holland Christian this year, this was the first time I have ever participated in an event such as this.  I thought it was such a wonderful time.  It brought tears to my eyes as I looked out into the audience at all of the support that I know these children are getting not only through their mothers and fathers but also through the love of their grandparents.  There is something so special about a grandparent.  They have such an important role in the lives of their grandchildren.

One generation  commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty-
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of your awesome works-
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

Psalm 145: 4-7

Parents:

I thought I should quick mention that my sign up genius is through my husbands name because I used the same one as I have had in the past as a parent.  So when you see Greg Wyma inviting you to a sign up--it is really me.  It is on my weekend lit to do.

Thank you Erin

Good Evening Parents:

I have updated our classroom newsletter of what we did last week as well as added some new pictures. We are having a wonderful time learning together in 3rd grade.

I was constantly reminded this weekend of God's Creation--

I saw HIM in the beauty of the changing seasons,
I saw HIM in the beauty of children playing,
I saw HIM in the beauty of people worshiping together,
I saw HIM in the beauty of families enjoying one another,
I saw HIM in the beauty of friends caring for each other,
I saw HIM in the beauty of the rain coming down,

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Colossians 1:16

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend enjoying HIS creation.  I am looking forward to seeing your children tomorrow morning.

Good Morning 3rd Grade Families:

I hope that you have had a most wonderful weekend ending in enjoying the Sabbath Rest.  I have updated the classroom newsletter so you know what learning happened in our classroom last week. Your children did an amazing job with it being our first 5 day school week.

Thank you to Liz's mom for coming in to help cover our writers notebook.

Also, your child may have told you that we have a high school student helping in our classroom every morning from 8:00-8:40.  Her name is Darby Yoder and I taught with her mom for the last 10 years while I was in Holland Public.  They are a wonderful family.  Darby is doing this as a placement for high school credits and because she is thinking that she might want to be a teacher eventually.  She comes in and helps me by doing laminating...cutting...copying... and then she sits and joins us for our devotions.

Raphie has "ALL ABOUT ME BAG" Monday and then we will pass it off to Miss Yoder to do and then after her turn, we will go to Jon.

This week Nathan, Jackson, and Jacob had "All About Me" bag.  The rest of our pictures are just a few during reading workshop where students are working with words or reading.

Have a beautiful day!!

OOPS!!!

Good Afternoon 3rd Grade Families:

I just realized, as I converted my classroom newsletter to a word document that, WOW--a few spelling mistakes.  My apologies, I did not know that if you are on this blogger they will not just show up as they do on a word document underlined with red if they are spelled incorrectly.  I did not know that I have to go through and choose to do that.  I just figured all was spelled correctly as I did not see those little red lines.

Live and learn I guess!!!

Next time I hope to do much better and remember to hit the spell check before I publish--thanks for your patience.

Tell your children that I can not wait to see them tomorrow morning!!

It has been another great week of learning.  We are really starting to get into a typical routine which is wonderful that it has happened so fast.  I am including some pictures of our reading/writing workshop as well as some of our science experiments.  Please check out the classroom newsletter tab as it has been updated and you can see what we have done in each area of our content.

Thank you for coming to the parent information night.  Please feel free as the year gets going to email any questions or concerns about anything that you might have.

Next week we will start reading minutes...word work(spelling)...bringing homework home.

ONE REQUEST:  I am looking for a parent to come in next week at anytime other than 10:15-11:00 to cover our writers notebooks with contact paper.  If you are willing, please email me at ewyma@hollandchristian.org.

Larissa did the "All About Me" bag this week.
